The Istanbul Grant of the Berlin Senate for cultural affairs has been awarded since 1988. It was the first grant to enable foreign artists to get in touch with Turkish culture and to develop projects on the spot.

Since 2013 the program has been tied to the Istanbul based cultural initiative diyalog. It helps artists to observe the trends in the contemporary arts scene of the city, to take part in it and to collaborate with Turkish artists.

Since 2015 the City of Zurich awards an artist-in-residence grant for Istanbul in the frame of its cultural promotion program. Nicole Hoesli is the first artist of this program, who is living and working in Istanbul for six month. She is developing new projects also in cooperation with Turkish artists.

The program is supported and supervised by the Istanbul based cultural initiative diyalog. The intention of the granted stay in Istanbul is to provide the artists with a stimulating, enriching experience.

The Federal Chancellery of Austria awards four grants per year to Austrian artists in the framework of an abroad studio program. The artists use the time in Istanbul to realize projects in an international context, gain new inspiration and extend their networks.

The cultural initiative diyalog, as the program’s partner, introduces the awardees to the arts scene. Through its network it offers them the opportunity to examine current artistic trends and exchange ideas with other artists and curators.
